Datum Electronics are proud to sponsor Vestas Sail Rocket, by supplying specialist prototype strain measuring products.
Malcolm Barnsley of the Sail Rocket program asked Datum Electronics to assist with coming up with a design which would measure the strain on the structure of the Vestas Sail Rocket for testing and during their coming attempt as the outright world speed sailing record contender.
Datum Electronics came up with a unique design for a specialist strain gauge product which is able to be glass fibred (GRP) onto composite structures such as that used by the Vestas team on board the Sail Rocket
Walvis Bay, Namibia is the location where the attempt will be made in the next few weeks.
Fig 1 shows the prototype gauge as supplied.
