The Datum Electronics Series 420 PTO (Power Take Off) Shaft Torque and Power Monitoring System has been designed to log the torque, shaft speed and transmitted power accurately when testing new systems driven from all standard PTO Shafts.

PTO Power Monitoring SystemThe tractor's PTO or stub shaft, transfers power from the tractor to the PTO-driven machine or implement. Power transfer is accomplished by connecting a drive shaft from the machinery to the tractor's PTO stub shaft. Common examples include elevators, grain augers and silage blowers.

The PTO and drive shaft rotates at 540 rpm (9 times/sec.) or 1,000 rpm (16.6 times/sec.) when operating at full recommended speed. At all speeds, they rotate in proportion to the speed of the tractor engine.

Working in Partnership with Bicton College

Series 420 PTO SystemBicton College are an Agricultural College in the UK, who worked on a project to restore a Massey Ferguson 35 with 23C four-cylinder engine. As part of the restoration process and procedure, the purchased a Datum Series 420 PTO System in order to gain an accurate level of output from the engine. As you can see the display meter supplied with the PTO system displays accurately the torque and speed output of the engine and calculates the power output.

Engine wear over time will have a impact on power output of an engine, in this instance the power output has been reduce from 34HP when it was first manufactured to 22HP. This can be attributed to engine wear, and other faults which happen typically over time.

Benefits of Series 420 PTO System

There are a number of benefits of using the Datum Series 420 PTO System. Efficient measurement and monitoring of this power can be a useful tool in research and analysis into the performance of a tractor transmission system highlighting efficiency savings measurement and organize.
Suitable for field testing or within a test environment, the strong, robust and rugged design of the PTO system can adapt to almost any environment, providing effective power measurement and monitoring of a typical Power Take Off System (PTO). Capabilities of the Series 420 PTO System includes:

  • Power Monitoring
  • Robust Design for use in field applications
  • Environmental Protection IP65
  • Easy Installation
  • Accurate Results
  • Direct USB interface into PC or laptop
