Torque Transducer Measures up to 200kNm

Datum Electronics undertook the project to provide a torque sensor capable of measuring up to 200,000Nm for Hydraulic Testing.

Torque Sensor ~ 200,000NmUtilising existing technology that Datum Electronics use in our range of torque transducers, the main challenge was how to assemble such a large torque sensor. The shaft element was supplied following Datum Electronics approval and the torque sensing equipment was fitted to the shaft providing valuable torque data for MacTaggart Scott & Co Ltd.

The transducer was designed based upon the concepts and processes already used in our RS420 and FF420 series torque range. These systems output torque data using a completely separate rotor and stator assembly without the need for bearings. This greatly reduces costs associated with maintenance and upkeep of bearings, and also reduces the transducer weight, including the weigh impacting upon the shaft.

Having looked at this project in some depth, we have the ability to increase our torque measuring capabilities above and beyond the 200kNm mark. We have the ability to measure 500kNm and even beyond this. The only real restriction is the size and handling of the shaft element.
